Horizon: This is part one of a two-part Horizon series on Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), more commonly known as "mad cow" disease, that looks into the scientific confusion and official bungling surrounding the problem. This allowed BSE to spread into the human population. The investigate includes an interview with Sir Richard Southwood, Chairman of the first Government Advisory Committee, who reconsiders evidence they first studied back in 1988.
